Hip Hop, 1 - 2, and you don't stop!

A love letter to the music/art form I've gotten so much from. More often than not, I'm listening to De La Soul, The Roots or stuff like that. I love that sort of positive intelligent form of Hip Hop and it's old school roots. The big gold chains and the track suits, a time when it wasn't really about boasting about jewelry but battle rhymes that validated what you stand for. I don't know, it's hard for me to express it, but I love it and so here it is.

DoD Pirates! Combining themes is one of my favorite things!

Dias De Los Muertos and Pirates! something I wanted to do and will probably do another version since I like it so much, maybe with just the Captain(the lovely lady at the top). But I like this one a lot, I wanted to do one with this kind of hierarchy and everyone looking ready for action, and I like animal Dias De Los Muertos Pirates. So many paintings I want to do with these characters!!

Applying study to style

I found a picture on the net (I'll link to it as soon as I can find the source, again) and I was really drawn to it. The picture is of a woman, very pin up art style/ alternative model, but what I liked about the photo was the 1-2-3 combination of light hitting the top of her head, shoulder and butt. So I did a study where it was a bit more of a photo copy but making sure I hit those high points. I don't think however, that just copying a photo is always good enough of a practice. I decided to take what I loved about the photo and stylize it so that I could apply that design style.

Also, in the photo she wasn't holding a cigarette holder, with a lit cigarette on it. I changed that to boost up some interest, storytelling and to paint some smoke.

Something I've wanted to do for a while.

I love Sci-fi and I love Ghost in The Shell. I've always been drawn to the idea of The Major in her own environment and taking in tons, and tons of information. I've always thought it was cool because it made kind of a statement of how overwhelming the future is with information and how this character is able to navigate it all. I did this piece on a weekend when I made time for myself to do a piece I'd been wanting to do. Sort of a fan art but in my own take of the story( I don't really do fan art unless it's a redesign).

Brainstorm FB Group Submission - More "just for fun"

There is a Facebook group that was started by some really cool concept artist, titled "Brainstorm." Basically every so often they choose different stories and subject matter to redesign as you see fit. This weeks was Game of Thrones character remakes. I did this of an older Arya Stark, she gets blinded and is able to take over the vision of the wolves in order to see.
